DFS Namespaces is a true Windows Server role service that allows you to group shared files located on different servers into one or more logically structured namespaces. This helps give players a virtual view of shared circular folders with the same file path across multiple servers for the reason shown in the following figure:
Here is a description of the elements that are in the DFS namespace:
- Hosting namespace server. The namespace server allocates the space to themen. The namespace server can be a master member server or a domain controller.
- Namespace – Root The root namespace is literally the starting point of the common namespace. In the previous illustration, the root directory name is usually Public, so the path to the location is \ Contoso Public. This type of namespace is often a domain-based namespace because it starts with any domain name (such as Contoso) and its metadata is also stored in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).
