Failed To Initialize HAL!
For some unstable reasons, I I suddenly get the above presentation in a pop-up window when I launch Etch. I’ve searched a lot on Google but didn’t find anything useful. I reinstalled dbus and hal but it didn’t help. I found that dbus-daemon is running. If I still use –verbose = yes it ends up with the following:

16: 55: 28,055 hald_dbus.c: 4074: Enter
16: 55: 28.056 [E] hald_dbus.c: 4081: dbus_bus_get (): received no response. Possible reasons: each remote application did not send a perfect response, the message bus security system blocked the response, the response timed out, or the network connection was lost.

It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t get half the performance, including the chord, without having to auto-mount the partitions, but at least I’d like to get rid of that pesky error popup!

I haven’t fixed the problem, but everything seems to be fine without the HAL. I actually know this is an improvement because I still didn’t like the fact that other external surfaces are mounted automatically (auto-mounting is a great connection when I try to find something with ‘find / …’. < Img alt = ":-)" src = "./../ images / smileys / icon_smile.gif">).
Right now I am running some C program via right boot cron that closes the error popup with xlsclients and xkill.
