I had a similar problem with the combination of a new laptop and Dragon Naturally Speaking. I have tried the latest drivers without a patch. Then I removed all driver files and those used by my battery card and installed all old drivers (from 2.14 to / 2.10). This fixed the problem.

I recently built a new computer with the fantastic Realtek HD audio codec. I was a little wary of the embedded audio as there were output and driver quality issues ov. The quality is actually not bad, but this particular driver kept crashing from me while I was playing games. If you think about it, it turns out that some parts of the rtkhdaud.sys driver are unlikely to be thread safe, because the pointer dereference is null after the test. I created a really nasty hack slot that adds a second test for a null pointer before writing to memory. Which seems to fix exactly this rtkhdaud.sys stop error that I was getting. Maybe it will work for you, but maybe not :).

You must use Realtek drivers (www.realtek.com.tw), not OEM drivers. The driver version must be R2.14 (Jan 2009). Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 32 bit only. Replace rtkhdaud.sys in the windows / system32 / drivers / folder with the following file: RtkHDAud-R2.14-Hacked.zip (2.39 MiB). Use at your own risk.
