If you are getting a laser error when reading the toc error code, today’s user guide has been written to help you. ACM is the older Windows “Audio Codec Manager” that makes LAME channels universal. This allows us to use the Lame MP3 computer programming algorithms in, for example, VirtualDub, FlasK MPEG and ac3dec. Now you can use your favorite high quality MP3 encoder which is also required for DivX.
This page shows you how to properly install VirtualDub, XviD and LAME mp3, and explains the basic options for VirtualDub.
Installing
C:Program FilesVirtualDub.
If you want the shortcut to appear on the desktop or taskbar of your PC, click on VirtualDub.exe. Right-click on the desired location in the program and select the option to create a real link.
Install XviD
XviD is a good free video codec. Download and run it from the link.
Install LAME Codec
LAME mp3 does the same as XviD, only for audio. In fact, it can export to mp3 (all editors audio files like Audacity can also use it). You don’t need to successfully install LAME if the audio stream of your input video clips is often already compressed (which is usually almost the case, except for example screenshots from Fraps and maybe other great devices).
Download the LAME ACM codec file (first in the list, exactly from August 2010).
Installing LAME on Vista and later is a bit tricky. Thank you Microsoft for this.
Install LAME On XP
Extract the zip list to any location. Log in as administrator, right-click the resulting LameACM.inf file. File, then select Install.
Install LAME On Windows 7 Vista In Addition To 32-bit And 64-bit Versions
The easiest way
Unzip the LAME ACM ZIP file to any location. Then download install-lame-win7-vista.zip (updated April 12, 2011, run as administrator on patched Windows 7) but extract it to the same lists. Run the appropriate .bat file (install-lame-windows7-vista-32bit.bat for Win7 32-bit or Vista 32-bit: install-lame-windows7-vista-64bit.bat for Win7 64-bit or 64-bit your version of Vista) administrator by right-clicking it and selecting “Run as administrator”.
Slightly less easy
You can also unpack the LAME ACM zip file to place it in C:lame. then select Start > Run… (or press Win+R) and paste the following line in the 32-bit version:
rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:lameLameACM.infC:WindowsSysWOW64rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:lameLameACM.inf
The result is always the same. This is only a manual method.

How do I add codecs to VirtualDub?
Just make sure all your formatting decoders are enabled under VFW Setup -> Decoder -> Codecs. Additional note: VirtualDub can automatically find all installed VFW codecs – you don’t need to do anything manually anymore. So thatyes, that little list in VD is all she can use.
Launch VirtualDub by running the main VirtualDub.exe file and open the file by choosing File > Open (or Ctrl+O).
Install Video Codec
This is extremely important. If you don’t do everything, enter a 10MB clip, resulting in a 200MB video.
What is ACM Codec?
ACM is Windows’ “Audio Codec Manager” and many applications capable of storing WAV audio data do so through ACM, making LAME encoding very versatile. The catch is that the recorded files have WAV headers that make the MP3 file unrecognizable to several players and decoders.
In the Market, select Video Compress > (or Ctrl+P) to compress the output video.
If you need your family, you can customize your own quality of results by clicking “Customize” instead of “OK” in the window above. The higher the quality (1), the better the file. The smaller the stroke (31), the smaller the size the resulting data file. I usually set it to 4 because I think it’s the newest good compromise between quality and document size.
(If XviD doesn’t appear in the list, please let me know after you’ve made sure you’ve just downloaded the 32-bit version of VirtualDub and installed XviD correctly.)
Install Codec
Forgetting can lead to certain results. If the audio is usually already embedded in the original video (which is usually the case for image clips taken with a camcorder/phone/camera), it may remain compressed. Other similar files containing Fraps touch screen recordings contain a nice uncompressed audio stream that will remain uncompressed and take up disk space.

To compress an MP3 stream, choose Audio > Full Processing Mode (otherwise the audio stream will just be copied as is).

- ^ YES, EVEN if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows. XviD and Lame don’t work with 64-bit version of VirtualDub!
