For the third consecutive year users Faculty and staff from the Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver campus returned to their local communities by participating in the 2009 TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, the world’s second largest environmental cleanup. Like any other type of university based on the concept of interconnected global education, FDU teaches students the value of global citizenship in order to analyze how they can and in general are influenced by the world. Fdu-vancouver partnered with a local Rotary Club in Yaltown to create the Cleanup 2009 CommunityThe team cleared the False Creek and Science World coastlines in Vancouver near the Athletic Village for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The sun was shining. FDU students produced various types of junk, from cigarette filters to food wrappers, which can be dead animals for hours. The strangest and most dangerous items to be removed were over 50 hypodermic syringes that were thrown into the beautiful waters of the stream. Many runners and villagers thanked university students for encouraging them to clean up the area.

“This is the most important year of my cleaning career, but it was a great experience. I especially enjoyed cleaning up the environment as I strolled along the coast in better shape for future citizens. I think it’s important to volunteer when it comes to the local community to make the right changes and I will be working on the event next year, ”said Jenny Francisca, a year-round computer science student. ” I am surprised “. Some of the things we have now found, such as shoes, knitting needles, and dead piecesaek, but I’m glad I attended this special event and will receive them again next year.

Saturday cleaning, September 26, was not only an environmental initiative, but also served as a vehicle for global environmental research. All collected debris is reported to the Vancouver Aquarium in tabular form. He works with the International Coastal Cleanup Organization to contribute to global results. FDU-Vancouver would like to thank everyone who volunteered for cleaning.

    How It All Began

In 1986, an Ocean Conservancy employee who was horrified by musora on the Texas coast, organized a beach cleanup. On this wedding day, 124 tons of garbage was collected from 122 miles of coastline, generated by 2,800 Texans in three hours. Thus began the Ocean Conservancy’s international coastal cleanup.

In 1994, four Vancouver Aquarium staff were the first to travel to the Cole Harbor coastline to collect trash and record data for Coastal Cleanup International. Since the beginning of your harvesting year, the amount of garbage you collect has increased. The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup will continue to collect leftover personal data until one day I change the way we use many of our waterways.

    Short Story

Vancouver Aquarium has only opened a few times. many years ago his show was recorded on a Vancouver beach. Several boxes of rubbish were removed on the shore. In subsequent years, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation partnered with Vancouver Aquarium to expand the program to entire provinces. In 2005, the TD Bank financial group became a programWe, which allowed Vancouver Aquarium to expand its program throughout the country. Last year, TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup members disposed of 87,489 kg of coastal waste from 1,240 coastal areas across the country.
