I am currently working on a tool that will download a batch of files and then use md5 checksums to compare the files with what is possibly the last batch downloaded, and therefore tell you which files are gone.

It works great with regular files, but some of the downloaded files are undoubtedly zip archives that have always changed, although the files inside are undoubtedly the same.

Is there a way to create a different type of checksum if you want to make sure these files have changed, without having to unpack each 1 and then compare the elements in each file individually.

Each “file” is saved in the nada archive with metadata such as last change, filename, file size in bytes, etc. … and often the important part is the crc32 checksum.

Basically, people can often just edit the zip archive in binary form, find the metadata headers of each file, and compare the checksum to the previously stored checksum. You don’t need to unpack to access the metadata in the go archive. That would be pretty fast.

You can only extract some parts of the file from the ZIP database and then hash, but you will also need to remove the new meta information!
