- This is an alternative solution where users rename SoftwareDistribution and dump the catroot2 folder. To do this, in Windows 10, press the Windows Media Reporting key + the X keyboard shortcut.
- Select Command Prompt (Admin) to open the main Command Prompt window.
- Type net stop wuauserv at the command line and press Enter.
- Type “blank stop bits” and press Enter.
- Then type the rename “c: windowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak” and press Enter.
- To restart Windows Update, type net Knowledge start wuauserv at a command prompt.
- Type start “net bits” at the command line and press Enter.
- Type “net stop in cryptsvc” in CMD and press Enter.
- To configure catroot2, enter “md% systemroot% system32catroot2.old” in my CMD as shown below.
- Then recommendation “xcopy% systemroot% system32catroot2% systemroot% system32catroot2.old / s” as shown in the snapshot below.
- Close the Command Prompt window.
- Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder path: Windows> System32.
- Select the catroot2 folder and click the Delete button.
- Then restart Windows.
